Agent PROfiles: An Interview With NUTURN’s Hyun-Seok “Hyeoni” Yoon.

When a new esport is formed, two types of player emerge to form its nucleus. The players that have been playing at a professional level in other games and switch to try their hand at another and the top ranked players from other games who are looking for their big break. Of those players, only a few will have a shot at potential stardom with their regions and NUTURN’s newest signing Hyun-Seok “Hyeoni” Yoon has just that opportunity.

Hyeoni has burst onto the Korean VALORANT scene due to his incredible ability as a Jett Oper, while on amateur team DFR in VALORANT Champions Korea. Taking the Korean Jett Monika to new levels with his performances against the likes of TNL Esports & his NUTURN. Now, after impressing all season long, he has the opportunity to impress on an international stage in the APAC Last Chance Qualifiers. Prior to this, Hyeoni has taken the to answer a few questions. 

First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions today and congratulations on joining Nuturn. Please introduce yourself to those reading.

우선인터뷰에 응해 주셔서 감사하며, 누턴에 합류하게 된 걸 축하드립니다. 자기소개 부탁드립니다.

Hyeoni: HI, I am NUTURN’s new player, Hyun Seok “Hyeoni” Yoon and I am entry fragger with operator for NUTURN Gaming.

혀니 : 안녕하세요! 이번에 누턴에 새로 합류하게 된 “혀니” 윤현석 이며 누턴에서 엔트리 및 오퍼 활용을 맡고 있습니다.

First-person shooters are known to not be incredibly popular in Korea. What got you into playing VALORANT?

FPS 종목이 한국에서는 그렇게 유명하지 않은 걸로 알려져 있는데요. 어떤 한 계기로때문에 발로란트를 하게 되었나요?

Hyeoni: I was an Overwatch player, and a player on the same team suggested Valorant which is Riot's new FPS game. I started out Valorant for fun and then decided to become a pro-gamer.

혀니 : 오버워치 선수생활을 같이 하던 팀 동료 선수가 라이엇에서 새로운 FPS 종목인 발로란트란 게임이 나왔으니 같이 한 번 해보자라는 권유를 받았습니다. 재미가 있어서 계속 하다보니 프로까지 왔습니다.

You’ve been playing this season with DFR. While you have been with NUTURN for a short period, what’s the main difference between the two organisations?

혀니 선수는 이번 시즌에 DFR에서 경기를 했었는데요. 누턴에 짧은 기간동안 함께 했지만, 두 팀의 주요 차이점은 무엇입니까?

Hyeoni: Order.  In-game order and coach’s role. They lead to the possibility of winning in an unfavourable situation, so I can do harder for the team without giving up until the end. 

혀니 : 오더요. 누턴에서 오더 포지션과 코치님의 역할이 불리한 상황에서 이길 수 있는 가능성을 보여주시고 이끌어 주시기 때문에, 끝까지 포기하지 않고 팀을 위해 더 노력할 수 있는 것 같습니다.

While you were on DFR, your performances were known as the VALORANT version of the Fleta deadlift. How were you able to perform so well on a team that struggled at times?

DFR 에서 보여준 혀니선수의 능력은 발로란트 버전의 플레타 데드리프트로 알려져 있습니다. 팀이 힘든 상황에서 어떻게 그렇게 좋은 성적을 거둘 수 있었나요?

*플레타 데드리프트 ( 한 선수가 경기에서 팀 전체 킬 중 50% 이상을 차지 하는 것)

Hyeoni: Thank you for that. Fleta is my favourite Overwatch player :) In that situation, definitely confidence. During the match, I was just filled with the thought, “I will finish this game with confidence. I can win”

혀니 : 일단 좋게 봐주셔서 감사합니다. 플레타 선수 오버워치 시절 제가 좋아하는 선수입니다. 그 상황에서는 자신감이죠. 무조건 자신감으로만 승부보겠다. 내가 다 이길 수 있다 라는 생각만 가득 찼었습니다.

Now, you signing with NUTURN surprised some fans as your now teammate Allow was highly rated playing the Jett Operator role. How did you feel picking up that role for the team?

현재 팀 동료인 “얼로우” 선수가 제트 오퍼레이터 역할을 누턴에서 담당하며 높은 평가를 받고 있기 때문에 누턴과 계약했을 때 일부 팬들을 놀라게 했습니다. 팀에서 그 역할을 맡게 된 소감이 어떠세요?

Hyeoni: I am still lacking compared to ‘allow’ but I am growing by learning a lot from the coach. I will show performance in the match, so please look forward to it

혀니 : 아직은 얼로우 선수보다 부족하지만, 지금 코치님께 많이 배우면서 성장하고 있습니다. 성적으로 보여드릴테니 많은 기대 부탁드립니다.

You’re first games for NUTURN will be in the APAC Last Chance Qualifiers. Does this put any pressure on you and who will give NUTURN the biggest challenge in you opinion?

누턴에서의 첫 번째 게임은 APAC 라스트 찬스 예선전입니다. 이러한 사실이 혀니선수에게 부담감이 느껴지나요? 그리고 어떠한 팀이 가장 누턴에게 있어서 가장 큰 챌린지 인가요?

Hyeoni: I would be lying if I said I didn't get any pressure. But since APAC is my first game with NUTURN, I am excited and confident. I am looking forward to a match against Paper Rax in APAC LCQ. Because they have experience in world competitions and show good performance.

혀니 : 부담감이 안느껴진다 하면 거짓말이겠죠? 하지만 누턴에서의 첫경기라서 설레이기도 하고, 패기로 자신감 있게 보여드리겠습니다. APAC LCQ에서는 paper rax와의 경기가 가장 기대됩니다. 아무래도 세계 대회 경험이 있고 좋은 모습을 보여주어서 가장 기대가 됩니다.

We’ve now seen NUTURN, F4Q and Vision Strikers perform on an international level. Having watched the three teams perform, where do you see Korea compared to other regions?

이제 누턴, F4Q, 비젼 스트라이커즈는 국제 리그에서도 잘 활약을 하고 있습니다. 세팀의 경기를 지켜보니 다른 지역과 비교했을 때 한국은 어떠한 가요? (플레이스타일 및 요원 조합 등)

Hyeoni: As Korea is a gamer's country, it seems to show more systematic and intelligent play, and various compositions. 

혀니 : 한국이 게임의 강국이다보니 좀 더 약간 체계적이고 지능적 플레이가 많고, 다양한 조합들 신선한 조합들을 보여주는 것 같습니다.

One thing that Masters Berlin showed was that Korea has a reluctance to play Viper, outside of Vision Strikers MaKo. Why do you think that is?

마스터즈 베를린에서 보여준 한가지는 한국이 비전스트라이커즈 마코 외에 바이퍼를 활용하는 것을 별로 좋아하지 않는 것인데요. 이것에 대해 어떻게 생각하시나요?

Hyeoni: When I saw Masters Berlin, we did not use Viper in Korea because I thought the utilization was low, but after seeing how well the European and NA team use her at Masters Berlin, I think it would be good for our team to use Viper too.

혀니 : 이번에 마스터즈를 보니까 그 전에는 한국에서는 바이퍼의 활용도가 낮은 것 같아 안썼는데 이번 마스터즈 베를린에서 북미팀이나 유럽팀이 잘 활용하는 걸 보고 저희팀도 쓰는게 좋지 않을까 라는 생각이 듭니다.

Finally, is there anything you would like to say to fans of NUTURN and Korean VALORANT? 

마지막으로 누턴과 한국 발로란트 팬들에게 하시고 싶은 말씀 부탁드립니다.

Hyeoni: I am new to NUTURN and I am learning a lot from the coach, So i will improve my performance and show good results in this league. Thank you to our NUTURN Fans for supporting :)
