Agent PROfiles: An Interview With Vision Strikers Byungchul “BuZz” Yu

When you think of the professional VALORANT, there few names that have grown to the stature that Korean team Vision Striker currently receive right now. A team that went a remarkable impressive 101 game unbeaten streak within the Korean region. A team that have dominated the region outside a few slips here and there but also a team that has the ability to be carried by anyone of their current six man roster. Byungchul “BuZz” Yu is on of those players. 

After initially bursting onto the scene with Cloud9 Korea, BuZz was eventually signed by Vision Strikers, who were rebuilding their roster after failing to make stage two Masters. Now after winnings Challengers Korea, BuZz and Vision Strikers are set to take on the World in Berlin and BuZz has taken the time to answer a few questions from Haloofhoughts.

First of all, congratulations for winning Challengers Korea stage 3. Please can you introduce yourselves and state your role within the team.

감사합니다!! 안녕하세요 저는 비전 스트라이커즈에서 타격대를 맡고 있는 유병철 "BuZz"라고 합니다.

Before we talk about the Berlin Major, I want to talk about yourselves and VALORANT in Korea. What was it about VALORANT that made you want to play initially?

베를린 마스터즈 질문 하기 전에 버즈 선수와 한국의 발로란트 씬에 대해 자세히 알아보고싶습니다. 버즈 선수는 무엇 때문에 발로란트를 시작하셨나요? (다른 게임도 많을탠데 왜 발로란트를 선택하셨나요?

I simply enjoyed playing FPS more than other genres out there and also recognized my talent in FPS. And knowing that VALORANT was relatively new, I decided to tackle the game and aim to become a professional esports player.

FPS 라는 게임을 좀 더 즐겨하고 잘 하기도 했고 아무래도 다른 게임들보다 막 나온 발로란트를 통해서 프로를 할수 있을것 같다는 생각에 열심히 했습니다

You started your professional career with Cloud 9 Korea and have since played for Bearclaw Gaming, Team MUYAHO and Rio Company in the past. What did you learn the most with these teams?

버즈 선수는 현재까지 프로 생활을 여러팀들: Cloud 9 Korea, Bearclaw Gaming, Team Muyaho, 그리고 Rio Company와 함께 하였습니다. 각각 팀에서 무엇을 배우셨나요? 

I learned a lot throughout all the teams that I have been on, such as VALORANT plays, management and most especially the nature of a team sport. I especially want to give a shout-out to the previous Cloud9 Korea members: xeta, Munchkin and Coach autumn, as well as the previous Rio Company Coach, Locomotive, for helping me throughout my career.

음 아무래도 많은것을 배웠죠 게임에 대한 운영이라던지 팀 게임 개념이라던지 발로란트를 하면서 꼭 필요한 플레이들에 대해서 많이 배웠어요 특히 C9 KR에서 xeta 선수,munchkin 선수 그리고 autumn 코치님에게도 많이 배웠어요 , RIO 에서도 Locomotive 유정선 코치님 게임에 대해서 정말 잘 알려주셨습니다.

Vision Strikers are one of the few teams that have a six man roster. What are your thoughts on having an extended roster?

비전 스트라이커즈는 세계의 몇 팀 안되는 6인 로스터를 운영하고있습니다. 버즈 선수는 6인 로스터에 관하여 어떻게 생각하시나요? 

I think having an extended roster provides many more significant benefits than people may think. I believe having the option to expand on our agent combinations is one of the biggest benefits a team could have with an extended roster. Personally, I think this gives us more potential than other teams.

제 생각에 6인 로스터는 단점보다는 장점이 훨씬 더 많은것 같아요 . 다른팀들보다 더 많은 조합으로 더 다양한 플레이를 할수 있다는게 제일 큰 장점같아요 . 덕분에 다른팀들보다 저희팀의 잠재력이 훨씬 더 높은것 같아요

Now, as a region, Riot Korea has been playing their matches in a LAN environment. Does this give Korean teams an advantage going into the Berlin Masters?

현재 한국 발로란트 대회는 오프라인으로 경기가 진행되었습니다. 이 오프라인 경험이 베를린에서 한국 팀들에게 도움이 많이 될거라고 생각하시나요?

Yes, without a doubt. Most teams out there have been playing online rather than on LAN and I think having the experience of playing on stage provides some advantage over not having it. 

네. 무조건 도움이 될거라고 봅니다. 다른팀들은 LAN 보다는 온라인으로 진행하는 지역이 꽤 있기 때문에 많이는 아니여도 도움이 될거라고 봅니다.

Obviously yourselves and F4Q will be representing Korea in Berlin. Vision Strikers and F4Q seem to have a rivalry going right now. How good do you think they are?

이번 국제대회는 비전 스트라이커즈와 F4Q가 한국을 대표로 나가게되었습니다. 현재 비전과 F4Q는 라이벌 관계인듯 한대 버즈 선수는 F4Q가 얼마나 잘 한다고 생각하시나요?

I think individually, their potential and skills with their agents are quite high. I personally think they could do well in Berlin.

음 일단 개개인 선수들의 포텐이 높다고 생각하고 에이전트의 숙련도가 높다고 생각해요 그래서 베를린가서도 충분히 나쁘지않은 성적 낼수도 있다고 봅니다.

There’s a lot of hype to see Vision Strikers play at an international level for the first time. What are your expectations going into the event?

많은 팬들이 비전 스트라이커즈의 국제대회 모습을 기대하고있습니다. 이번 대회에서 어떤 기대를 하고 계시나요?

The expectation is to take the championship. We are practicing hard to make this a reality.

우승을 목표로 대회를 나가고 있기 때문에 열심히 준비하고 있습니다.

There has been a lot of talk recently regarding how well teams will play in Berlin, how does Korea’s play style and compositions compare to the rest of the world?

많은 팬들은 현재 베를린에 참여하는 팀들을 비교하며 “어느 팀이 가장 잘 할 거다”라는 토론을 하고있습니다. 버즈 선수는 세계 팀들을 비교했을때 한국의 플레이 스타일 및 요원 조합은 어떻다고 생각하시나요?

I think in comparison to NA and EMEA, Korean teams tend to have less skirmishes, and I think this comes from agent combinations as well. If we compare NA and Korea, we see that NA picks Phoenix and Reyna significantly more than the Korean scene. I think Korean teams try to fight less engages, so I don’t know what’s going to happen in Berlin.

음 일단 아무래도 북미 유럽과 비교를 하자면 한국은 싸움이 훨씬 더 적게 일어나요 그게 또 조합에도 많이 관여가 되는것 같아요 . 북미와 한국 조합을 비교해보면 비교적 북미는 피닉스와 레이나 픽이 많지만 한국에서는 찾아보기 조금 힘들어요 .아무래도 싸움을 즐기는 편은 아니다 보니 어떡해 될지 모를것 같아요.

Which teams or players are you looking forward to playing against the most and which team do you think are the favourites going into Berlin? 

버즈 선수는 베를린에서 가장 붙어보고 싶은 선수/팀은 누구이며 현재 베를린 우승 후보 팀은 누구라고 생각하나요?

I want to play against Sentinels and Tenz the most. He is quite prominent for his talent so I want to see how I fare up against him. In terms of who I think are favorites going into Berlin, I’d say Vision Strikers, Gambit, Sentinels, and Acend.

SEN 팀의 TenZ 선수와 붙어보고싶어요 아무래도 총을 정말 잘쏜다고 소문이 나있어서 한번 어떤지 붙어보고 싶어요 우승후보는 저희 팀 포함해서 겜빗 센티넬 에이센드라고 생각해요

마지막으로 하고 싶으신 말씀 및 비전 스트라이커즈 팬들에게 한마디 부탁드립니다.

You will be able to see how BuZz and the rest of Vision Strikers fair, at an international level, when the Stage Three Masters tournament begins in Berlin on September 10th and whether they can bring home Korea’s first international VALORANT win.
