Get My Greek On - The Real Greek

I've never tried Greek food before, so when I was invited to an event hosted by The Real Greek to try the menu, I was very much interested on a new food experience. As is customary with events within Southampton I went with the girls from Southampton Bloggers and got ready to see what The Real Greek had to offer.

The Real Greek is one of the many new restaurants within West Quay Watermark. However, it is the only authentic Greek restaurant that Southampton has to offer. I wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived but as soon as you walk in you feel like your in a small part of Greece. Every aspect from the decor, atmosphere and the menu helps you get a feel of whats to come.

The staff were incredible and I mean the entire staff at The Real Greek was welcoming and friendly, they were also happy to answer any questions we had in regards to the restaurant. They sat us down quickly, took our coats (which I felt was a very nice touch) and then gave us menu's, explaining any food we weren't sure on. We also had the chance to speak with Tonia Buxton who explained the idea behind the Cold/Hot Meze platter style and the Greek idea of everyone coming together to eat. We took this in to full consideration and decided that we would all get something different and share.

After choosing from an array of cocktails, we started with the Htipitp which is a Spicy Feta Dip with flatbread, which was my favourite of the starters we tried. We also had the Green Pea Flava which is a mushed peas mixed with lemon and olive oil, Falafel, Tzatziki and Tiropitakia which was a triangle shaped filo pastry filled with creamy leek, feta and spinach.

Then came the hot food, we all took a little something different so that we can try everything available, it was all so good. My favourite was the Mediterranean Chicken, roasted veg with the Tiropitakia on the side. We also had Chicken Skewers with peppers and onions, Grilled Halloumi & Kalamari, Greek Salad, Lamb Kefte, Lamb Meatballs and Loukaniko. I think it was definitely a eyes bigger than your belly moment as we didn't manage to finish it all, but it tasted incredible.

After giving yourselves a bit of digesting time, we then tried three of the deserts on offer: Greek Yoghurt with Walnuts in Syrup which I didn't really like and Chocolate Mousse and Caramel & Pecan Cheesecake which both tasted amazing, I honestly couldn't get enough of either of these.

I loved my time in The Real Greek, the atmosphere, food and staff made my time in there a really enjoyable experience. So much so, Alice and I have already been back to have a date night there. I can see The Real Greek become a regular place for us to eat. How do you feel about Greek food?
