Bill's Restaurant - Southampton West Quay

When it comes to the restaurants in the new West Quay Watermark, Bill's Restaurant was the one that I felt we would be visiting the most. I'd previously tried the burgers in the Salisbury restaurant a few years ago with Alice, so when it came to the opening of the Watermark restaurant I can safely that I was excited to try the menu.

As you're probably well aware, when it comes to breakfast there is no better place for pancakes in my mind than Bill's to such an extent that we've had four visit's within the first month of opening (I've no regrets over this) but when it came to the evening meal I wanted to be a bit more adventurous.

When we arrived we were greeted by one of the managers and waiter for the night Brendan, taken to our table and given the time to choose what we like. Brendan was incredible whilst we where there, never rushing us into a decision and actually taking the time to advise the restaurant specialities and what was highly recommended. We ordered our food and got a few drinks, and took in the amazing decor that was all around the restaurant.

We decided that the best way to start our meal was to share a platter which was a mixture of Chickpea and Paisley Falafel, crumbed Halloumi sticks, baked tomato Hummus, Tzatziki, Red Pepper Tapenade, mixed Olives, pickled red cabbage and warm Piadina bread and with the added extra of Alice's favourite Crispy Calamari. For a starter platter this was one of the better combinations that I've had in a while and I wouldn't hesitate to order it again.

When it came to the mains, I picked the BBQ Ribs in caramelised Apple, chips and a creamy slaw as I'd eyed them up in previous visits and Alice went with the Pan Fried Sea Bass with cherry tomatoes, avocado and caper salsa plus a bubble and squeak potato rösti. The Ribs were incredible, the mixture of the caramelised apple and BBQ was perfect and finally the Ribs were cooked to perfection as they just fell off the bone with the slightest touch.

Some how after all this food, we still decided that we would end our night with a desert. There were two options that jumped out at us, as a huge fan of Chocolate Brownies with Vanilla Ice Cream for me this was the main option but Alice wanted the Warm Mini Cinnamon Doughnuts with fresh strawberries and chocolate sauce. They looked amazing when they came out that we decided to share but I eventually went back to having the full Brownie.

The night at Bill's Restaurant was a good one, filled with a great atmosphere, good staff and amazing food. It has become our regular when it comes to breakfast's and Southampton would now be a worse off place without it. How have you found your visits to Bills?
