As I mentioned above, I am very much for there being a Male Blogger label. For starters, we are all males that write a blog, this is no different in my mind to being an actor/actress or a professional footballer being called a football player. It's describing what activity we take part in. You have to remember that blogging has been something that females have done for years and compared to this, Male Blogging in some regards is something fresh and new.
Using the Male Blogger label is also beneficial. Lets be honest here, we all know that the majority of our target audience for the most part is going to be three areas: products which are designed and intended for men, other male bloggers or men who are interested in product reviews and for women who have partners and have no idea what to get them as some men can be tricky to buy for. It is no different to being a female lifestyle/fashion/beauty blogger. It's great to be able to have #malebloggers on twitter, as it is the easiest way to find posts that myself and others would be interested in.
Finally in no way, shape or form do I believe that being labelled as a Male Blogger or using the label lead to exclusion of any form. I have been blogging for the last 4 months, I take part in regular twitter chats provided by blogging platforms on twitter and a group of regular bloggers both male and female. Not once have I been discredited or excluded from these because I am a Male Blogger. In fact I've had the complete opposite reaction. Female Bloggers recognise that this is an area that needs filling and want it to happen, this is because blogging is about sharing views and having different opinions to talk about. Plus a lot of female bloggers I have spoken to love to see Male Bloggers, as it provides views from a male point of view which you don't currently see a lot when it comes to blogging.
As a result I will personally keep referring myself as a Male Blogger because at the end of the day, this is exactly what I am and it hasn't provided me with any problems so far. What is your view on the Male Blogger Label as I would love to hear about it?
