Robin Hood at The Mayflower

"HE'S BEHIND YOU". Yes that's right ladies and gentlemen It's Panto season and last night I went to see a performance of Robin Hood The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. This was the first time that I had ever been to see a Pantomime and I went with the girls at Southampton Bloggers, so I knew that this was going to be a good night.

Showing at The Mayflower until January 8th, Robin Hood (Shane Richie) attempts to win the heart and hand of Maid Marion (Jessie Wallace) whilst he and his Merry Men outsmart and make the Sheriff of Nottingham's life as stressful as possible.

This was the first time that both Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace have worked together outside of Eastenders, so as you can imagine there are a lot jokes and references around this fact. I grew up watching them both on Eastenders so for me there was a lot of well worked jokes. Although Shane Richie absolutely stole the show as the lead character and with his interaction with the audience, you could see that both he and Jessie Wallace enjoyed working together and with the rest of the cast. The amount of impromptu occurrences between each other throughout the show, really added to the fun factor of the show.

As I mentioned at the start, this was my first time going to see a pantomime, so I wasn't sure what to expect when seeing it in person. I honestly feel that Qdos productions managed to find a nice balance between being entertaining for children and providing the mature jokes that many an adult will enjoy. Qdos also went that one step further and had a segment that was in 3D! This showed what the path through the forbidden forest, while it wasn't anything that made myself jump. There were definitely parts that may have been a bit intense for children, but again I felt they ran this line really well and it was an impressive part of the show.

I had an amazing time with girls and want to thank both The Mayflower and Alice for the opportunity to watch this production. Alice has done an amazing job providing opportunities such as this and I look forward to more in the new year.
