On Guard With Overwatch

Overwatch is a game that I have wanted from the first moment I saw it released in May. Produced by Blizzard Games (Creators of Hearthstone and World of Warcraft) Overwatch is a fast paced first person shooter, in which two teams of 6 face against each other fighting towards an objective.

The beauty of Overwatch compared to any other game is that your not locked into one champion the entire game. If a team composition isn't working or you need to make a change on the fly, you're able to swap the champion you are using for another one to see if this helps change your fortune.

Overwatch currently has 23 different champions that you can play as and they all have different abilities, play styles and roles (Sombra is the newest champion released last week who is an attack champion who specialises in hacking). There are 4 styles of Champion to play as: Offensive Champions who are your DPS (Damage Per Second) dealers, it is these guys that will be doing a majority of the damage and getting kills. Defensive Champions who are perfect at using their abilities to defend an objective or strategical point. Tanks who can do exactly what their role suggests and soak up as much damage as possible and finally Supports, who use their abilities to help the other roles the best that they can. There isn't minimum in regards to what roles required so you could go with a team of offensive champions but this isn't advised.

There are 15 maps in total and 4 different game modes all have an attacking and defending team, these being: Escort where the attacking team have to deliver a payload to an objective point on the map, while the defending team have to prevent this. Assault is two teams fighting over a critical point on the map, Hybrid which starts off as an Assault game but at the first objective point unlocks the Payload and turns into an Escort game and finally, you have Control: This is a best of three game mode where the two teams fight to control the map point, the first team to 100% wins. You also have a Skirmish mode to play while loading into a normal game and a training mode to improve you play on a champion.

As you play, you level up. This unlocks loot boxes which provide you with in game extras such as spray tags, voice lines, end of game animations and new skins for your champions. Once you reach level 25, you're then able to partake in ranked. This is the competitive aspect of Overwatch where it matters if you win or lose. There are 7 ranked tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master and Grandmaster) and you gain or lose XP depending on the result, so it is fairly easy to see how you progress. Each season last 3 months and at the end of the season depending on your rank you will gain a reward. You're also made aware if you make it into the top 500 on your server.

So far I have loved every minute of Overwatch and by far Lucio is my favourite champion. How far have you gotten and who is your favourite?
