Over the last few years I have seen blogging grow at a phenomenal rate, from people not wanting to share the fact they blog to now sharing their experiences whether this be from their latest haul, holiday or event. This has resulted in a community that supports each other over common interests. Today I wanted to share with you the reasons why I have chosen to blog.
Sharing Experiences
A year and a half ago I helped with one of the Sotonblogger events and it gave a really good insight to what these events are like. I loved seeing people interact with each other even though they've never met before and really getting along just by sharing a common interest. Reading other peoples blogs and getting an insight into others lives has been a great way to try new places or products I may never had thought of before.
Improving Myself
I suffer from dyslexia on a mild level but also tend to be quiet when I'm around people I don't know as I've never felt comfortable in myself. I wanted to find a way to improve both of these and felt that blogging would be the perfect way to tackle this.
Now if I am around people I have known for years or drunk, I tend to be loud and a bit of a goof whereas if I'm around people I have never met or hardly know I find that I don't have the confidence to really be myself. Having dyslexia, I feel that by constantly writing posts on the experiences that I am lucky to find myself in, I can learn when to use the correct spelling of words but also improve my writing structure. I know that by blogging I will eventually get to the level I want to be.
Social Engagement
I'm originally from Tunbridge Wells in Kent, I came to Southampton for university and ended up finding both a city I love and feel comfortable in but also the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. The problem with this was most of my good friends have either moved back home or moved to other cities to path their own way in life. This has resulted in keeping myself to myself more than I would've liked.
Despite having a few good friends and my partner I share a lot with, I feel that it's never a bad idea to find more people who share the same interests as you, while at the same time discovering new interests. As the topics of blogging can be so diverse, you get a good range of posts to read and follow.
Female Bloggers Have All The Fun
The main thing I have noticed with blogging is that it's a practice that is mainly dominated by women, which is amazing however, it would be great to see more male bloggers.
This may be due to men feeling that being a man is all about being macho and not sharing their emotions or writing abilities. The idea of being a part of the blogging community has really intrigued me. I have always like the idea of doing something that is against the crowd and becoming a male blogger is right up that avenue.
I hope that this post gave a small insight about myself and why I've decided this is right for. If you like what you read please do hit the follow button or leave a comment.
I really enjoyed reading this! Blogging can be a fantastic way to have an outlet and everyone is so supportive around here. I've only been blogging for 4/5 months, but I have grown more confident in ways and I'm more confident about sharing my feelings about things going on in the world or my mental health. I agree with the fact that there are more women in the blogging world and it may be regarded as a thing women do more than man, but I'm glad you started your blog! You have a very well written and engaging style of writing and I'm looking forward to your next posts! Keep on the good work man :)

Thanks for the comments Marc, its really appreciated. I honestly thought you had been blogging longer that 4-5 months and love the fact you are so open with your mental health posts.
DeleteGlad I found you and your blog recently! It is definitely a female saturated market so it's nice to have another guy in my following list (there aren't many unfortunately). Looking forward to reading your future posts!

Thanks for the comment Alana. It's not a bad thing that it is more female orientated as it's nice to see something that is but there are a lot less male bloggers than I thought there would be. Im sure you will see more posts in the future.
DeleteI actually love reading male bloggers' posts! There's definitely way too many of us girls haha! So glad I found you, yaaaaay for twitter! x

Thank you for the comment. There is a lot fewer male bloggers but it's all good. Ill make sure I will check your blog out.
DeleteI'm really excited for my first blogger event coming up in Nov- I hope I can meet some great people! & I'm literally the exact same as you when it comes to meeting new people & being quiet, like as soon as I know you & come out of my shell I'm loud as anyone but till then dont expect much from me!
ReplyDeleteI'm always excited to find a new male blogger, because as you say, it's so female oriented and I think the reason is indeed men caring about the 'image' of themselves and wanting to be 'macho'. Male bloggers unite!

Thank you very much. I have very much enjoyed blogging so far.
DeleteI started blogging not knowing there was such a great male blogging community. I'm always moving location so I can definitely relate. Joseph - Gentlemen's Odyssey
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, if I didn't have my partner I wouldn't have known about the male blogging community either.
