Proud To Admit That I Play Computer Games

I've been playing video games since I was around the age of 10, I turned to gaming after I had one too many knee injuries playing sport and needed another hobby or outlet as I never fitted in the area I grew up in (Sob story time), gaming helped fill this void perfectly.

Now I know that gaming is seen as a geeky past time or hobby, but this is something that I'm not ashamed of enjoying. I love playing the single player game modes, as the stories that come from them for me can be as good if not better than a good book or film. You can really get into these stories when they are composed well and because you are the person controlling the main character, you feel like you're controlling the story and you can really get into what your playing.

I also like playing computer games online. I've always been somewhat competitive, so having the opportunity to pit myself against others to see how good I really am is something I still do to this day. This has gone from playing competitively on my own, to being part of a team and trying to be one of the best teams on a certain game (something that I've had the joy of doing a few times). I still to this day some 10 years since I first started playing video games online, talk to my old teammates. It's this community development which is similar the rise of blogging that has helped gaming progress so much.

Speaking of this progression, gaming has come a long way since the days of Sonic on Sega and Super Mario Brothers on Nintendo, to the point that games such as Call of Duty, Halo and League of Legends are now providing people with an opportunity to earn a living. This progression is called Electronic Sports or Esports. Esports is the one of the fastest growing sports in the world, people have gotten to so good that they can now play professionally as part of teams in major tournaments to earn millions in prize money.

It's gotten to a stage where these teams are getting as big a following as major football or sports teams. I will honestly admit that I have more fun watching these major tournaments or leagues than I do watching other sports. I can admire the technical and mental skill that is required to play at such a high level, after playing competitively for so long for myself.

I love gaming and it's something that will always watch or play, I can still spend hours of time a day enjoying my time around gaming. It's also one of the reason's why I chose to blog about my gaming experiences, as the gaming community is so big today compared to what it used to be when I first started that you never know who is going to enjoy the same games and story's you do.
